Cookie Policy

1. What are cookies
Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to store. Similar technologies, such as your browser's local storage, work the same way. They let a site remember something between pages or visits, for example a choice you made. Some are essential; others are optional and used for analytics or advertising.
2. How we use cookies
Current status. Neither Microsoft Clarity nor Microsoft Advertising UET is configured on this site at the moment. Even if you select “Accept All”, no analytics or advertising script is requested. This policy describes how they will work once they are enabled; the consent banner will control them from that point.
| Cookie / provider | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
Cookie consent preference (dg-consent, tasguides.com) | Remembers your cookie choice so we don't ask again on every page. | First-party local storage | Up to 180 days |
| Cookie / provider | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
Microsoft Clarity (_clck, _clsk; Microsoft cookies such as CLID, MUID, ANONCHK, MR, SM) | Helps us understand how visitors use the site through heatmaps and session recordings. Clarity may process your IP address, pseudonymous identifiers and on-page interactions. It masks text it identifies as sensitive, but masking is not guaranteed. | First- and third-party | Set by Microsoft and varies by cookie; see Microsoft's Clarity cookie list |
| Cookie / provider | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
Microsoft UET, Universal Event Tracking (_uetsid, _uetvid, MUID) | Lets Microsoft Advertising measure ad performance and understand how visitors arrive at our site. We intend to use it for conversion measurement and have not set up remarketing audiences. Microsoft processes this data under its own privacy statement. | First- and third-party | Up to 13 months, per Microsoft's UET documentation |
Durations and cookie names are set by Microsoft and may change. Microsoft's current details are in its UET FAQ and the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
3. How to control cookies
The button above, and “Cookie Settings” in the footer of every page, reopen the settings panel so you can change your choice at any time. If JavaScript is turned off in your browser, no optional scripts can load at all.
We ask again after 180 days from your last saved choice. Ordinary visits do not extend that period. Once the choice expires, optional categories stay off until you choose again. Earlier 12-month records are no longer accepted, so returning visitors with those records are asked again. Clearing site data or a future material change to our consent policy can also prompt a new choice sooner.
This is our conservative re-consent period, below the maximum of nine months described in Microsoft's Clarity consent guidance. It is separate from Microsoft's cookie and data retention periods and is not a claim that consent is legally valid for that duration in every location.
Global Privacy Control (GPC): when your browser exposes an enabled GPC signal, we treat it as an opt-out of optional advertising for every visitor, without checking location. Microsoft UET does not load, and Clarity's advertising permission stays denied. Settings show advertising locked off; neither “Accept All” nor an earlier saved advertising choice can override GPC. Analytics remains a separate opt-in, not permission granted by GPC.
We check the browser signal before applying choices and when you return to a page. Where storage is available, we replace a previously saved advertising grant with an opt-out without extending its expiry. Turning GPC off does not restore that old grant; you would need to choose advertising again. These choices apply to this browser, not automatically to other devices. GPC support varies by browser; you can always use “Reject All” instead.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser:
- Chrome: clear, enable and manage cookies
- Firefox: clear cookies and site data
- Safari: manage cookies and website data
- Edge: delete cookies
Disabling essential cookies may affect site functionality. If local storage is blocked, the banner will appear again on each visit because we cannot remember your choice.
4. Microsoft Advertising and Consent Mode
Before any optional script could run, every page first sets Microsoft UET Consent Mode to ad_storage: denied and Microsoft Clarity's ConsentV2 signals to ad_Storage and analytics_Storage denied. These defaults create no network requests.
- If you allow advertising and GPC is not enabled, the configured UET tag loads and Consent Mode is updated to
ad_storage: granted. - If you allow analytics, the configured Clarity tag loads and is told
analytics_Storage: granted. Clarity'sad_Storagesignal follows your advertising choice separately, with GPC taking precedence to keep it denied. - Allowing analytics never loads UET, and allowing advertising never loads Clarity.
- If you choose “Reject All” or “Necessary Only”, no analytics or advertising scripts are loaded.
- If you later turn a category off, the site sends a
deniedupdate, deletes the cookies those services set on this site that it is able to reach, and reloads the page so their code stops running. Cookies Microsoft set on its own domains can only be cleared in your browser.
Tracking is not activated by this privacy review. Before activation, Clarity must be configured to require consent and automatic UET–Clarity linking must be disabled in both directions. The site keeps tags unavailable until those checks are recorded. Consent Mode alone does not prevent cookieless requests; separate category-based script blocking remains required.
We use the consent-gated approach described as Basic Consent Mode in Microsoft's UET guidance, not the Advanced mode that can send data before consent. A denied storage signal alone is not a guarantee of no network activity, which is why we also block unapproved tags. Clarity receives its separate ConsentV2 signals. These controls describe this site's behavior; they are not a guarantee of compliance with every jurisdiction's laws.
